Seems straightforward enough; however, irregular maintenance and servicing can lead to breakdowns and costly repairs if your diesel fleet or earth movers are not properly maintained. This is why it is crucial to have a qualified Perth diesel mechanic regularly service your earthmoving machinery, as downtime means lost money, especially if you are invoicing based on material moved.

How to Know when your excavator tracks need repairing

10/4/2017

Comments

There are a number of components that make up your undercarriage to help the machine move and work as required. Maintaining your excavator track components is an important part of extending your machines track life.

Possible Symptoms of track component failure can be:
  • Unable to tension your track.
  • Broken or worn drive sprocket teeth.
  • Grouser plate damage or missing bolts & grouser plates.
  • Losing traction when tramming up inclines.
  • Tracks binding up when operating in sandy conditions.
  • Exposed fibres/wires on rubber tracks only
Worn Drive sprockets can accelerate your track chain link wear causing premature chain link failure. If your machine start’s to skip when tracking up inclines or sprocket teeth are breaking chances are that it needs some repairs.   Track drive sprockets need to be replaced as they go beyond the wear limits.

An old or worn track chain can cause your drive sprocket to wear unevenly. A new drive sprocket on an old chain can cause excessive wear to the chain links and bushes.
Worn track rollers & idlers can cause your tracks to fall off and the track won’t tension correctly.

If your tracked machine needs servicing or repairs, DieselWest can carry out the necessary repairs onsite to suite customer requirements.
